Taylor

Sue Ann Marek, 75, passed away on Monday, February 17, 2025 in her home, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on May 21, 1949, in Taylor, TX, Sue had a remarkable love for life and for the people who were fortunate to be a part of hers.

Sue graduated from Taylor High School and proudly embraced the motto, “Once a Duck, Always a Duck.” On February 23, 1973, she married the love of her life, Kelly Marek, and together they raised two children, Rob and Keri. That same year, they founded K&S Iron Works and built it into a successful business. In 1986, Sue took over That Shirt Place with her dear friend, Jackie Randig, and the two ran the shop for many years. While managing the shop, Sue continued to handle the books for K&S from home and later worked for Journey Construction until February 2018. Throughout her career, Sue balanced work with being an active, loving presence in her children’s lives. Whether it was giving rides or hosting pool parties and sleepovers, Sue made an impact on everyone she encountered. She was also deeply involved in town functions and community events, always lending her support.

In 1993, Sue was diagnosed with breast cancer, a journey that led her to a new, significant role—supporting others facing similar struggles. Over the next 16 years, Sue played a crucial role in Taylor's first cancer support group. She offered help, counseling, and a listening ear to those going through similar battles. She arranged rides, shared her personal experiences, and became a source of strength and comfort to many.

Sue's energy, love for life, and devotion to her family, friends, and faith were unmatched. She was known for her infectious smile, youthful spirit, and deep love for Jesus. Staying healthy and “young at heart” was important to Sue, and she loved her time in Silver Sneakers classes. "Fritter Fridays" became a beloved tradition for her. Sue also cherished playing cards, and her monthly gatherings with her card group were a highlight of her life. When she wasn’t playing cards, Sue was traveling with her lifelong friends, the “Sistahs,” enjoying summer getaways and celebrating birthdays and special occasions together.

Most of all, Sue treasured her time with her best friend and husband, Kelly. Together, they made countless memories with their children and three beloved grandchildren and all those who called her Nana. Whether it was swim parties, poolside breakfasts, sleepovers, camping trips, sporting events, or rodeos, Sue's love and pride for her family shone brightly.

Sue is survived by her husband, Kelly Marek; her son, Rob Marek and wife Cherie; her daughter, Keri Jansky and husband Jeff; her grandchildren, Mayce Marek, Ty Jansky, and Jake Jansky; her brother, Jim Wade and wife Janie; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Margaret Sinnigson, niece Cheryl Wade, niece Colby Marek Burns and many aunts and uncles.

Services will be held on Friday February 21, at Taylor Brethren Church, at 11am with a celebration of life to follow at the Taylor KC Hall. Memorials may be made to Taylor Brethren Church or the American Cancer Society in honor of Sue Marek.
