Bertie Stanley Lawrence was born to Clarence Herbert (Bertie) Lawrence and Clara Emma Sanders Lawrence on March 8 th , 1935, in Austin, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents and his only brother Ernest Lawrence. He is survived by his wife Jeanette Popp Lawrence, son Lary Lawrence and wife Jana and granddaughter Lisa Hammock and husband James. Stanley had numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Stanley attended elementary through middle school in various Austin area schools. He attended Pflugerville High School where he participated in football, baseball and was an active member of the FFA. Stanley raised and showed lambs and steers through FFA and worked on his family’s dairy farm. After graduation Stanley attended Blinn College, and later Sam Houston State University where he played on the university football teams. While in college he also joined the National Guard. It was at Blinn College that he met his wife Jeanette. Prior to graduation, Stanley left college to pursue a life of farming and ranching. Stanley dedicated his life to farming, ranching, and breeding show steers and heifers. He touched many lives of 4-H and FFA students across Texas who purchased show stock from him. He served as a mentor to these young people and was the epitome of the FFA Creed. Stanley was the proudest when his granddaughter showed steers that were picked specifically for her from his herd. He made an impact on so many lives, countless FFA and 4-H students, family, and friends. He will be greatly missed. He will live on in our hearts and our stories forever. He was the ultimate COWBOY, RANCHER and FARMER. He worked from dawn until dusk and beyond. Later in life he and Jeanette moved to the Thorndale area where he continued to farm and ranch. He was particularly proud when Lary moved closer in order to help him at the ranch. His favorite things to do were to drive his tractors and ride around in his Gator checking the cattle. Another activity he enjoyed was the annual family reunion held during Thanksgiving. He loved to catch up with his family members and, of course, he was always first in line to eat. Stanley donated frequently to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
