Socorro De la Rosa, 84, of Taylor passed away at her home with her family at her side on Tuesday, September 28, 2021
Socorro Ramirez was born on June 30, 1937, in Elgin TX to Pedro and Carmen Ramirez. She was the second eldest of 5 brothers and 2 sisters. Socorro graduated from Elgin High School in 1956. She then began working in downtown Austin at Goodfriend’s Women’s Apparel store as a bookkeeper until she met and married a young man who really needed her to love and share her life with him. Socorro married Raymond De La Rosa on November 25, 1960, and made Taylor their home. She was a devoted, gentle and patient wife to Raymond, and a wonderful mother to their three daughters, Katherine, Cynthia, and Patricia.
Socorro rejoined the workforce in 1977 and was employed by the Taylor ISD as a Special Education Aide for 20 years. She loved her job and would many times extend to her students extra care and support. After her retirement she had more time to enjoy her hobbies of crocheting doilies, and beautiful afghans for her grand babies and for many others. Her daughters frequently treated her to outings to the theatre to enjoy broadway musicals.
During football season she and her husband spent their Saturdays cheering on the Longhorns and during the summer they watched every game of the College World Series and the Little League World Series. She was a devout Catholic and strong in her faith.
Socorro was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia De La Rosa Ortega, her parents Carmen and Pedro Ramirez, her sister, Anna Ramirez Holmes, and brothers Jesus, Merced and Carlos Ramirez.
She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Raymond, her daughters Katherine (Daniel) Duran, and Cynthia (Steve) Guerra, grandchildren Daniel Joshua (Kaitlin) Duran, Esteban Gabriel Guerra, Olivia Victoria Ortega, Sarah Marie Guerra, two great-grandchildren Crystal Rose and Micah Reed Duran, brothers Ralph (Darlene ) Ramirez, Louis Ramirez, sister Terri (Rudy) Delgado and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, mass intentions can be requested for Socorro at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic Church in Taylor.
Private services for the family will be under the direction of Providence Funeral Home.
