Ruby Rakes

Ruby Naomi (Stiles) Rakes, 90, met her Lord and Savior face to face on November 24, 2021.

Ruby was born on July 1, 1931, in Mountain View, Oklahoma to Benjamin Franklin and Mary Ida Stiles. She graduated from Bentonville High School in Bentonville, Arkansas in 1949.  Ruby married her high school sweetheart, Clarence Rakes, on September 16, 1949.  They were blessed with 65 years of marriage.  Two children were born of this marriage, Larry Wayne Rakes and Arlene Yvonne (Rakes) Ritchey.

Ruby worked as the secretary of Hillcrest Elementary in Dumas, Texas for 23 years.  She made many lifelong friends with the teachers and staff at the school.

In retirement, Ruby and Clarence took their motorhome to many states.  Eagle's Nest Lake, New Mexico was a favorite destination.   Ruby crocheted many beautiful masterpieces which she loved to gift to family and friends.

In the last years of her life, Ruby lived at S.P.J.S.T. Assisted Living in Taylor, Texas, where she was surrounded by many loving workers and friends.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, her husband (Clarence Rakes), her son (Larry Rakes) and daughter in law (Marilyn Thompson Rakes), and her brother (Boyd Stiles).

Ruby is survived by her daughter and son in law (Arlene and Ron Ritchey), her brothers (Cecil Stiles and Doyle Stiles and wife, Evelyn) her sister (Shirley Stiles Ediger and husband Danny), five grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.  She was dearly loved by all her family.  She left a legacy of love and faith.

As per her request, there will be a private family gathering to celebrate Ruby's life.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to First United Methodist Church, 401 Binkley, Dumas, Texas 79029, where Ruby was a lifetime member.
