Rozel Cathey Jr., age 63 of Elgin, Texas, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on the morning of Sunday July 28, 2019 in Odessa, Texas.
Affectionately known as “Baity” or “Bubba,” Rozel was born March 18, 1956 to the late Rozel Cathey Sr. and his surviving mother Sarah Ann Cathey (Johnson) in Taylor, Texas. Young Rozel was introduced to Christ at an early age and attended Taylor schools. A hard worker, Rozel departed from Taylor High School and began working for ALCOA in Rockdale, Texas. Rozel also displayed his business acumen as a young entrepreneur by opening “The Essence” nightclub in South Taylor which was very successful. “Mr. Magic” as he was known on the DJ and music scene, knew how to move any crowd; a testament to his love for music. Wherever he was, you would hear the sound of music. The hard working Rozel would later obtain in addition to his G.E.D., his master welder certification, his master electrician certification, and most recently his crane operator certification. Rozel also worked for Construction Rent-a-Fence with the Ford family for a number of years and was presently employed with CCC Group for almost 20 years where he held the position of Superintendent.
Rozel married the love of his life, Brenda Eulane Cathey (Brown), on November 24, 2000 in Elgin, Texas. Through this beautiful union, they combined a loving family consisting of four sons and one daughter. In his spare time, Rozel loved to work on any and everything. He also loved going tool shopping, finding the best bargains at garage sales, eating jellybeans, music, visiting or calling his mother multiple times a day, and most importantly providing for his family whom he loved dearly. Rozel had unconditional love for everyone and was loved by his family and friends. In addition to his late father Rozel “Duggey” Cathey Sr., Rozel was also preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Castella Cathey and Elnora Brown and maternal grandparents Fritz and Lucille Johnson. Along with his surviving wife Brenda and mother Sarah Ann, Rozel leaves to cherish his memory four sons, Quincy Griffin (wife Shanaye) of Taylor, Texas; James Wilson, Lindsey Wilson Jr. (wife Monica), and Donray Scott (wife Terri), all of Elgin, Texas; along with one daughter Kamesha Randle of Taylor, Texas. Rozel also has a host of grandchildren as well. The oldest of his siblings, Rozel is also survived by brothers Albert Cathey (wife Thelma), Johnny Roy Cathey (wife Doris), Johnny Ray Cathey, and Michael Cathey; a half-sister, Denise Cathey-Lee of Blytheville, Arkansas; and also leaves to cherish his memory his many loved family members and friends.
