Roy Mitchell, 76, of Louisiana, passed away peacefully in his home on May 2, 2023.
Roy was born in Louisiana on March 8, 1947, to Woodrow Winston and Mary Viola Mitchell. Roy joined the Army when he was 17 and was stationed at Fort Hood, where he went on to meet the love of his life, Margarita Mitchell. Roy was a hard worker starting his career as a meat cutter for A&P in West Monroe at the age of 16. Later in life, Roy moved to Austin and continued working as a meat cutter for Safeway, retiring after 26 years. Roy could cut a chicken in a New York minute. After retirement Roy went on to work for Coburn and Company for 9 years.
Roy had an infectious smile and touched the hearts of all he met. Roy was always willing to help others and often went out of his way to ensure others were taken care of. Roy always had a saying for anything, quick as a pistol and sharp as a tack. He loved making others laugh with his warm personality and country time jokes. Roy spent the last months of his amazing life in the great community of Bartlett, Texas, but if you asked Roy where he lived, he would tell you Mayberry USA; where he was cared for until the end by his wife, Margarita Mitchell; daughter, Sylvia and son-in-law, Juan Rivera; and hospice nurse turned family, Scotty. As well as continued support by his sons, David Hernandez and Ronnie Mitchell.
Roy will be deeply missed by his wife Margie; sisters, Pat Kennedy and Barbara Ann Reynolds; children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and the many friends he made throughout his journey.
Roy was preceded in death by Woodrow Winston Mitchell, Mary Viola Colson Mitchell, Ralph Elijah Coston, Earl Mitchell, Ralph Edward Coston, Joe Andrew, and Daniel Hernandez.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Margarita Mitchell; son David and wife, Lisa Hernandez; son, Ronnie and baby, Christian Mitchell; and only daughter, Sylvia and husband, Juan Manuel Rivera.
Pall bearers are Ray Rivera Jr., James Sanchez, Gary Daniel, David Hernandez Jr., Aaron Edward Gonzalez, Mario Rodriguez, Nathaniel Garza, and Juan Garza II.
