Rodney Lee Matthes

March 25, 1956 — December 23, 2024

Rodney "Podge" Matthes, beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away peacefully at his home on December 23, 2024.

Rodney Lee Matthes was born on March 25,1956 in Estherville, Iowa to Charlotte and Wayne Matthes. He grew up in Clinton, Missouri with five brothers and two sisters. Shortly after graduation he married his high school sweetheart and had two beautiful children, Jason and Amber Matthes. Years later, he moved to central Texas and married Elizabeth Matthes, who blessed him with three lovely daughters, Halley, Logan and Aubrey Matthes. Podge, a loyal friend and lifelong member of the local 669 union made his living as a sprinkler fitter until he retired. An avid hunter, he rarely missed a deer season in Missouri with his brothers and friends. When he wasn't working or hunting you could find him tinkering in his shop, laughing at his own dad jokes, perfecting his beef jerky recipe, or teaching the grandkids how to play the harmonica.

Podge was predeceased by both his parents, his brother Wayne "Skip" Matthes and his loving daughter Amber Dawn Matthes. He is survived by his children, Jason Matthes, Halley Matthes, Logan Matthes and Aubrey Knofla; six precious grandchildren; brothers, Larry, Dean, David, and P.D., his sisters Cindy and Debbie; and his dear friend, Donna Thibodeaux.
