Robert (Bob) Ray Kovar, 79, of Leander, Texas died on August 18, 2024, in an accident while bicycling. Bob was born on December 3, 1944, in Taylor, Texas to parents Daniel and Alice (Cuba) Kovar. He grew up in a large extended family with grandparents, and many uncles and aunts, and cousins. He attended West End Elementary School and graduated from Taylor High School. Bob got his civil engineering degree from the University of Texas at Austin and immediately went to work for the Texas Highway Department of Transportation (TxDOT). After an over thirty-year successful career he retired from TxDOT and pursued a very active life. He was an avid runner and bicyclist. Not only had Bob been a marathon runner, but he also had supported friends by running in ultra-marathons. Bob participated in competitive bicycle races and in the last number of years continued to participate in four of the major Texas rides. In addition, he was always working on some project from renovating the house he grew up in to working on classic sport cars. In his later years he became a passionate Genealogist doing deep research into his Czech past and was working on a book with his brother, Dennis.
Bob was a kind-hearted and generous man who had strong feeling for his family, made friends easily and maintained friendships over decades.
He is survived by his brother Dennis Kovar and sister-in- law Mary (Bishop) Kovar; his nephews, David Kovar and Michael Kovar, and his niece, Diane Kovar; and four great-nieces (Courtney, Elizabeth, Katherine, and Maria Kovar) and three great-nephews (Andrew, Simon and Samuel Kovar). He was preceded in death by his parents Daniel and Alice (Cuba) Kovar.
