Robert Wayne Hirt Obituary
Robert Wayne Hirt, 92 of Taylor Tx passed away Wednesday January 8th, 2025.
Robert was born on April 2nd, 1932, in Salty to Emil and Elsie (Hazel) Hirt. He grew up with 4 sisters and 2 brothers, all who have predeceased him. Robert married Dorothy Fojtik on June 24th, 1961, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylor TX. To this marriage they had two children, Tamara and Gregory Hirt. Upon graduation Robert joined the U.S. Navy during the Korean War 1951-1955. Where he served as a Second-Class Engine Man on the USS LST 827. He returned to Thorndale Tx after the passing of his father to support his mother and family. Robert worked for Texas Utilities Generating Company where he retired as a drag line operator at age 55 after 31 years. After retirement you could find Robert at the Taylor Livestock Auction Barn every Wednesday.
He served as President of the Taylor Rodeo Association in 1987, 1988, and 1991. He was awarded a lifetime membership in 2023. Robert enjoyed the western and cowboy way of life which included working cattle with Don Lee Shiller, Greg Kaiser, Gaylon Remmert, and Archie Hobbs. He hunted deer with a number of his closest friends that became like family on the AG Braun Ranch for 32 plus years. You could find him normally at Whataburger in the mornings with his coffee drinking group of buddies.
Robert loved spending his time overseeing the training and competing of his and his granddaughter's horse “Renegade”, who they bred for, behind his daughter’s back.
Robert Hirt is predeceased by his mother, father, siblings, and many close friends.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy Hirt of 63 years. His daughter Tamara Friar (Tomme D Friar) of Taylor and his Son Gregory Hirt (Michelle) of Milano. Granddaughter Tana Friar of Talyor and his Step-Grandson Tomme Blake Friar (Chelsea) of Aspermont. Step Grandson Daniel Peterson of Oklahoma. Great grandchildren; Kyla, Landon, and Sadie Friar. Multiple nieces and nephews. And his horse ‘Renegade’.
