Robert “Bob” Frank Haisler, Jr., 76, of Thrall departed this life peacefully on April 3, 2020, at home in Thrall.
Bob was born June 21, 1943 to Robert and Lillian Maurine (Procter) Haisler in Temple. He loved the outdoors and spent much time at Lake Belton. He enjoyed working on cars and bought his first car from a neighbor when he was 12- It had no tires and he drove it home on the wheels, to his father’s chagrin. During high school, Bob worked at Marshall Motors gaining valuable knowledge of mechanics. Later in life, his love of cars led him to collect and restore vintage automobiles.
After high school, Bob joined the Army. He was selected for the nuclear field and was trained at the Defense Atomic Support Agency in Albuquerque, NM. While there, he was baptized into Christ at Trumbull Avenue Church of Christ. He also met the love of his life, Margaret Martin. They were married and had two beloved sons. In addition to stations stateside, Bob’s Army service led them to tours in Alaska, Italy, and two tours of duty in Germany. Bob’s job also took him to Turkey and Greece.
After serving in Alaska, Bob took a hiatus from the military to get his associate degree in electronics from TSTI in Waco. After graduation in 1974 he returned to the Army with his former rank of CWO3.
In 1983, after 22 yrs in the Army, Bob retired in Huntsville, Al. In 1984 Bob and Margaret moved back to Texas where Bob worked at B&J Building Center in Taylor, and later at Taylor Builders. Bob also owned and operated “Bob’s Lock Service”.
Bob retired again and moved to Thrall in 2008. He loved Thrall and the wonderful neighbors. Bob was known for his ability to “do anything with his hands”. He could fix most everything. He is remembered for lovely Christmas light displays when living on Lake Drive in Taylor. His hobbies included vintage stereo equipment, computers, and gardening. He was known in Thrall for the beautiful bougainvilleas surrounding his home. Bob also enjoyed garage sales and a good bargain.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and infant son, Todd Robert Haisler.
He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret, of 56+ years; two sons, Charles (Lori) Haisler of Woodway and Gary Edward Haisler of Georgetown; granddaughter, Christina (Fuad) Haddadin of Orland Park IL; 3 great grandchildren, Madilyn, Sophia and Joseph Haddadin; sister, Norma Jean (Milton) Payne; brother-in-law Tom (Kathy) Martin; nieces Leshia (Kurt) Toliver and Michelle Payne; nephew Walter Martin .
