Paul Milton Volek was born on August 14, 1924 in Taylor, Texas. He was the youngest child of John and Frances (Simcik) Volek. He passed to his heavenly home on November 26, 2018 at the age of 94 at the SPJST Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in Taylor.
Paul attended the Moravian School in Granger, Texas and enlisted in the United States Navy on March 16, 1943. He proudly served his country in World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations, Saipan, Paulus, Pearl Harbor, Fiji, Canton, Pogo, Guadalcanal, Manila and Tawi aboard the USS Pocompe. He received an honorable discharge as a Seaman 1 st Class in December 1945.
In 1946, Paul married the love of his life, Elsie Ann Vitek and they enjoyed 43 years of marriage until her death in April 1989. Following Elsie’s death, Paul became reacquainted with a longtime friend, Delores Machu and they were married in November 1991. She preceded him in death in 2009.
Paul worked hard all his life and was well known for his outstanding work ethic and desire for perfection in all that he undertook. He was a farmer for many years. He worked for the Taylor ISD for 40 years as a bus driver and custodian, retiring in 1989. He was also the custodian at the Taylor Brethren Church for ten years. He could make a tile floor shine like no one else could! After retirement, Paul enjoyed fishing, dancing, playing the accordion—a talent he developed and perfected while in the Navy, and building birdhouses and other woodcrafts for his family and friends.
Paul was extremely proud of his two sons, Melvin (wife Stephanie) and Dannie (wife Anita). His grandchildren brought him much pleasure and he enjoyed spending time with them. His special little Boston terrier, Daisy, was his sunshine on days when his health began to decline. She would snuggle in the recliner with him and snooze the days away while watching old westerns on television.
In addition to his sons, Paul is survived by his grandchildren Christie Mouton (husband Alex), Travis Volek (wife Kim), Leighanne Volek, Tyler Volek (wife Lauren), Ashlynn Volek and Dayton Paul Volek. He also leaves behind great-grandchildren, Sarah Meza, Jaden Paul Meza, Paul Volek and Kaylin Volek, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his wives, and his siblings, Joe, Louis, Henry, Mildred Supek, Annie Dana, Frank, Bertha Cadan, Rosie Seawright, Frances Srba and Johnny.
