Obaldo Perez

October 17, 1943 — May 21, 2023

Obaldo Perez, 79, of Granger passed away peacefully, Sunday, May 21, 2023, surrounded by his wife and children.

Obaldo Perez was born on October 17, 1943, in San Saba, Texas to Felipe & Estella (Acuña) Perez. He grew up with 12 siblings and attended school at Runge, Texas. He married his best friend, Beatrice Gonzales, on July 02, 1962, at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Taylor, Texas. They lost their first son and later they were blessed with five beautiful children, Daniel, Sylvia, Gloria, Obaldo Jr. and Carmelita. In everything that he did, Obaldo worked extremely hard. In his earlier years, he worked as a cotton gin foreman in Tahoka, Texas. He also worked as a landscaper for Jonah Nursery. Later, he dedicated thirteen years as a groundskeeper and maintenance for Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic School. He then worked at Granger ISD for sixteen years as maintenance, landscaper, security and then as school cross guard making sure the students got to school and home safely until his final days.

In his spare time, Obaldo enjoyed being with his family and spending time outdoors. He loved fishing and camping with his children and grandchildren. He also had a green thumb when it came to gardening and even has a pepper plant named, “Obaldo Pepper” after him. He loved music, and enjoyed dancing, especially one of his favorites, the Twist. Obaldo also enjoyed going to the casinos with his wife and always came back a winner (mom not so much). He also enjoyed playing cards with his family. Obaldo was a big fan of the Granger Lions and looked forward to watching Friday Night Lights at Granger High School watching his grandsons play football.

Obaldo was very strong in his Catholic faith. He taught his children to always put God first in their lives, to always be honest, respectful, and to work hard for what they have. He also taught to never envy anyone and to be grateful for what God has blessed you with.

Obaldo is preceded in death by both his infant son and Obaldo Perez Jr. Grandchildren: Alize and Brandon Lopez. His Parents: Felipe & Estella (Acuña) Perez, Father and Mother-in-law Antonio and Juanita Gonzales.
