In the early morning hours of February 8, 2025, Nicomedas "Nico" Madeline Martinez, at the age of 93, was lovingly called home to the Lord.
Born on September 15, 1931, in Waco, Texas, to Juan and Mary Sanchez, Nico's life was one of devotion, strength, and boundless love. In 1951, she moved to Taylor after marrying Ralph "Rabbit" Martinez. A devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, Nico dedicated herself to her family and her work, spending much of her life in custodial service before retiring from the University of Texas.
Nico’s legacy is one of resilience, kindness, and an unshakable spirit. She found her greatest joy in the love of her family, cherishing every moment spent with those she held dear. Her gracious heart, gentle wisdom, and quiet strength left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
She now rests in eternal peace alongside her beloved children, Christina Frias and Tommy Martinez; her parents, Juan and Mary Sanchez; her sister, Catalina Sanchez; her brothers, Ray and Mariano Sanchez; and many other cherished family members who went before her.
Her love and memory live on through her children, Patricia Martinez, Irene Dubec, and Ricky Martinez; her sister, Helen Olivarez; her brother, Eufemio Sanchez; as well as numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends who will forever carry her spirit in their hearts.
Nico will be profoundly missed, but her love, laughter, and unwavering faith will continue to inspire and guide those she leaves behind. She remains forever woven into the fabric of her family’s lives, a beautiful testament to the power of love and the enduring bonds of family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2025 with viewing starting at 5 PM at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor, followed by prayer services starting at 6:30.
The funeral service to honor Nico’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, February 14, 2025, at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest at Our Lady of Guadalupe Cemetery, where she will find eternal peace surrounded by the love of family and friends
