Melvin Walde Steger, 81, of Taylor went to be home with his Savior on April 20, 2021. Melvin was born on May 18, 1939 to Walde and Elsie Steger. He grew up in St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bartlett Texas, where he was baptized, confirmed and married his bride of 61 years. He was a proud Bartlett Bulldog where he participated in every sport and he graduated in 1957. He grew up on the farm which is where he developed his hard-working ethic, and that is how he lived his life. He worked 38 years with Alcoa in Rockdale TX. In 1959, he marred Geraldine Schneider and they moved to Taylor in 1962 where they raised their three children. It was his dream to be a high school coach. He enjoyed coaching all sports for his children. He was the head coach of the first Pop Warner football team in Taylor in the 1970s. All those young athletes that had the privilege of being his players in every sport were given a great foundation in athletics and sportsmanship. Dad took great delight in his grandchildren. He attended many football, softball, basketball and baseball games, stock shows and band concerts. Popo was there to support his grand kids.
