Melvin Shamard

Melvin Anton Shamard, 85, passed away November 22, 2019 at Bel Air at Tera Vista Nursing Home in Round Rock.

Melvin was born in Thrall to Joe and Mary (Karasek) Shamard on April 3, 1934. He grew up farming with his family at Rices Crossing, Thrall, and Round Rock. He worked picking cotton and at the cotton gins in Williamson County and Arizona. Melvin married Sarah Marshall of Albany, Georgia in 1963. He worked for Pokorny Construction for many years. Melvin served the City of Taylor for 26 years in Maintenance, retiring in 1999. The “Welcome to Taylor” signs that are still present are among his many projects he helped implement for the city he loved. He enjoyed bird hunting with his brother in law, Pete Mott, and the many family barbeque gatherings. Melvin was a car enthusiast all his life and owned numerous cars, motorcycles, and a boat. His cars were always his pride and joy. He purchased his beloved black Camaro in 2014 at the young age of 80.

Melvin was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah M. Shamard; parents, Joe and Mary Shamard; sister, Judy S. Hill; brother-in-law, Odis Hill, brother, Herbert J. Shamard; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Y. Shamard; and brothers-in-law, Pete Mott and Walter Schoen.

Survivors include daughter, Sherri S. McAdams and Ronnie of Georgetown; granddaughters, Hillary McAdams and Kristen McAdams; sisters, Lillian S. Schoen of Danbury and Elsie S. Mott of Taylor; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 2, 2019 at 12:00 pm at Providence Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm, with Chaplain Jimmy Farmer officiating
