Maurice Martin Koenig

August 17, 1939 — June 3, 2020

Maurice “Morris” Koenig, 80, left this world on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 to his heavenly home.

Born in Schulenburg, TX on August 17, 1939, his family settled in San Antonio where he lived most of his life. He married Catherine Ann Cornell on January 6, 1962 and eventually settled in Taylor spring of 1981. He served in the US Coast Guard from 1957 to 1961. A hard-working man and entrepreneur, Maurice owned and operated several food establishments, an appliance repair company, a taxi service, and vending company, all while working for Union Pacific Railroad as Railroad Engineer. He liked eating menudo, making goulash with whatever was in the fridge, playing 42 dominoes, fishing and driving way too fast! He also enjoyed visiting Branson, Missouri. Over the last few years, he enjoyed the community at Renaissance Villa in Rockdale. His family is grateful for the care he received there.

He is proceeded in death by his wife, Catherine Koenig; parents, Dan and Bertha Koenig; brothers, Dan Koenig, Jr. and Herbert Koenig; and sisters, Bernice Luddeke and Lorraine Janecek.

He is survived by his daughters, Kimberly (Mike) Brueckner of Laguna Vista, Jennifer
(Tony) Truitt of Taylor, and Kathleen (Mark) Laurence of Taylor; grandchildren, Jackie Truitt of Kyle, Anthony Truitt of Dripping Springs, Matthew Lozano of Austin, KC Zens of Phoenix, AZ, Alex Brueckner of Laguna Vista, Easton Laurence, Kate Laurence, Elijah Laurence, Anne Laurence, and Jill Laurence, all of Taylor; great-grandson, Paxton Truitt of Dripping Springs; sister, Evelyn Morin of La Vernia; and brother, Adolph Koenig of San Antonio.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, June 7, 2020 at Providence Funeral Home.
