Martha Ann Cervenka
July 4, 1930 – April 1, 2023
Lifelong Granger resident, Martha Ann Cervenka, passed away peacefully at Will-O-Bell Nursing Home in Bartlett on Saturday, April 1, 2023. She was 92 years old. She was born on July 4, 1930 in Granger to her parents Louis and Rosie (Nemec) Hajda.
Martha married the love of her life, Alfred Cervenka Sr., October 12, 1954 and was happily married for 49 years. The two were just 6 months shy of celebrating their 50 th anniversary, when Alfred passed on April 5, 2004. Martha and Alfred were honored to serve the Granger area through their ownership of the Granger Lumber Company for 35 years.
Martha was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her smile was infectious and could bring joy to any room. She will be surely missed by family and friends alike.
Martha attended Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic School in Granger and graduated from Granger High School in 1948. She was a member of Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church as well as a member of K.J.Z.T., K.J.T, and the Alter Society. Martha could often be seen around the yard nursing her beautiful roses. She enjoyed sewing and baking but what brought her the most joy was spending time with her family. Martha loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren with her whole heart and soul.
In addition to her parents, Martha is proceeded in death by her husband, Alfred Cervenka Sr., her son Alfred Cervenka Jr., her siblings Angeline Repa, Marie Repa, Vaclav (VJ) Hajda, Agnes Bohac, and numerous brothers and sisters in law.
Survivors include her children, daughter in law Sharon Cervenka, James Cervenka and wife Laurie, Joyce Merrill and husband John, grand children Jamie Huf and husband James, Kayla McGinley and husband Ryan, Marissa McElhany and husband John, Mckenzie Cervenka, Lukas Merrill, her 3 great grandchildren, Tatym Huf, Taryn Huf and Willa McElhany, brother Louis Hajda Jr. and wife Loretta, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Providence Funeral Home, 807 Carlos Parker Blvd NW, Taylor, Wednesday April 12 from 5 – 7, Rosary to follow.
Funeral services will be held at Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, 100 N Brazos St, Granger, Thursday April 13 beginning at 1:30 PM followed by committal service at Calvary Cemetery 451 CR 335, Granger.
Any Memorials can be made to Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church.
