Marie Emily Mendeke

Marie Mendeke was born in Corpus Christi on May 23, 1937 to the late Martha Michalik Ladewig and Erwin Ladewig. She graduated from Taylor High School and later married Norman Mendeke on November 8,1958 and recently celebrated d65 years of marriage.

Marie was employed by the Texas Department of State Health Services for 40 years and retired at the age of 83. She enjoyed hosting family gatherings and warmly welcomed anyone needing a place to go and a meal to share during the holidays, embodying the true spirit of generosity, compassion and hospitality.

Her family meant the world to her, and she left this life surrounded by her loving family. Marie is survived by her husband Norman Mendeke, children Keith Mendeke, Melissa Moore and husband Robert, Patricia Mendeke, grandchildren Kourtney Viktora and husband Philip, Ashley Danielle Mendeke and husband Chase, Shelby Avants and husband Braedon, great grandchildren Kassidy and Abbey Viktora as well as other family members and friends.

A funeral service will be held on January 5, 2024 at 2PM at the Taylor City Cemetery (East 4th Street, Taylor, TX 76574) followed by a reception at Taylor Brethren Church.

Marie's family wishes to thank the medical staff of Austin Hospice, in particular Christina Fuessel, Shelby Thomas, Katrina Shawgo, and Margarita Pena, who went above and beyond for her care. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to their chosen charity or Hospice Austin (4107 Spicewood Springs Road, Austin, TX 78759) in memory of Marie Mendeke.
