Margaret Jean Ponton

December 18, 1930 — April 16, 2025

Margaret Jean Krieg Ponton

Margaret Ponton, 94, of Taylor, passed away peacefully the morning of April 16th, 2025. Margaret was born in Thrall, Texas, on December 18th, 1930, to John and Emma Senkel Krieg, the fourth of five siblings. Margaret was a proud graduate of Thrall High School and attended many reunions. She graduated from Texas State College for Women in Denton, majoring in home economics. Her long teaching career began in Galveston, Texas, but she soon moved back to her roots and briefly taught in her hometown of Thrall. The last twenty-nine years as an elementary teacher were spent in Taylor at Southside, West End, Twelfth Street, and Northside. She retired in 1989 after 35 years of influence in the school system. She continued her devotion to education with many years of active service in the Williamson County Retired Teachers Association.

In 1953, she met the love of her life, Ray Allen Ponton, on a blind date. On June 5th, 1954, they were married. They welcomed two daughters, Marianne and Susan, born only 13 months apart. Ray and Margaret celebrated 66 years of marriage. They enjoyed traveling with the RoadRunners to sites all over the U.S. as well as having many adventures with the Texas Rose Rustlers. They made many lasting friendships along the way.

Margaret was a longtime member of the Taylor Brethren Church. She served in many roles there and taught an adult Sunday School class until well into her 80s. She also credits Bible Study Fellowship for strengthening her faith in Jesus and developing her deep desire to spend time in the Scriptures.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Ray, brother Charles, sisters Irene and Viola, and granddaughter Sarah Bohls. She is survived by her brother John Krieg, Jr. of Fredericksburg, daughter Marianne and son-in-law Burt Moncrief of Plano, daughter Susan and son-in-law Rodney Bohls of Houston, granddaughter Meredith and husband Michael Konderla of Houston, grandson Cameron and wife Hayley Bohls of Katy, four precious great-grandsons Luke and Isaac Konderla and Henry and Liam Bohls, as well as wonderful nieces and nephews.

Celebration of life will be held on Sunday, April 27th, at Providence Funeral Home at 2 p.m. in Taylor, Texas, with visitation following the service. Graveside services will be held Monday, April 28th, at 10 a.m. at the Taylor City Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers include: Cameron Bohls, Rodney Bohls, Erik Brewer, Walter Brewer, Jared Delony, Michael Konderla, Burt Moncrief, and Jason Rieger.

The family would like to express appreciation to Dr. Franklin Chang and his staff for their tender care for her, as well as the employees of the SPJST Assisted Living for making her feel welcomed during her 14-month stay there. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Taylor Brethren Church (PO Box 351, Taylor, Texas, 76574) or the Taylor Educational Enrichment Foundation (3101 North Main Street, Taylor, TX 76574).
