Louis Salvatore Rubino

May 7, 1925 — March 5, 2019

It is with great sadness that the family of Louis Salvatore Rubino announce his passing on March 5, 2019, at the age of 93 years.

He was born on May 7, 1925 in Jersey City, New Jersey to John and Anna Rubino who immigrated to the United States from Italy. As a first generation American, he grew up in Brooklyn, New York and graduated from Fort Hamilton High School.

Upon graduation he worked in New York City and then later enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served in both the World War II and Korean War. During World War II he served as a Staff Sargent in the Tank Destroyer battalion based out of Fort Hood, Texas.

While stationed in Texas, he met the love of his life, Lucille Krenek and were married on July 29, 1945.  After living in New York and Austin, they made their home in Taylor where they raised 4 children. Louis enjoyed spending time with his family and was a proud father. He spent many hours coaching little league baseball with his sons and later his grandchildren.  He enjoyed helping others and served as an usher for many years at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

He earned a bachelor’s degree at St. Edwards University and worked as an accountant at ALCOA. Upon retirement he then worked for Pflugerville Independent School District. After his second retirement he enjoyed spending time with his family and his daily trip to the senior center to chat with his friends. Even though he never lost his Brooklyn accent he loved living his life as a Texan.  As a veteran one of his proudest moments was being a part of the Honor Flight Austin in 2013.

Louis is preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna, his brothers and sisters Jennie Rifici, Steve Rubino, Tony Rubino, John Rubino, and Rose Pepitone and his loving wife of 65 years, Lucille.

He is survived by his sons, Larry, Louis, Allan, daughter Karen Eckert, his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Louis will lovingly be remembered by all those who came to know his kind, humorous, generous, and compassionate soul.
