Loraine B. Weise, age 93, of Thorndale, Texas, was called home by our Lord on Thursday, October 7 in Taylor. She was born on February 5, 1928 to Marie and Carl Merkord of the Detmold community. She was baptized and confirmed by Pastor Theodore Bogisch, who also performed her marriage in the St. John Lutheran Church in Detmold.
Her confirmation verse was Psalm 27:1: The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life, of whom shall I be afraid?
Loraine married Herman Weise on November 16, 1947, being a dedicated and loyal wife one day shy of 66 years. She and Herman resided in multiple places in Texas throughout their years including Thorndale, Brenham, Ballinger, Friona and back to Thorndale, where they raised both children. Early in their marriage, her occupation was being a loving and caring mother who stayed home to be there for their children when they came home from school, always having a snack and a hug ready when they walked in the door. Years later, she worked alongside her husband at the Thorndale Community Lumber Company, Inc. for more than 25 years, where she made many friends in the community.
She was a room mother for her children’s classes where they attended St. Paul Lutheran School in Thorndale. She also was a choir member at St. Paul Lutheran Church for numerous years.
Loraine’s family looked forward to enjoying her German egg noodles and dressing at Thanksgiving and her homemade coffee cake any time during the year.
Loraine loved her family and friends. Most of all, she loved the Lord Jesus Christ, trusting in Him through all the trials of her life, which were many. We rejoice in knowing that she is being held in the arms of our loving Lord, in no pain, with no worries and in ultimate peace.
Loraine is preceded in death by her husband Herman; her mother and father, siblings Tillie Kirsch, Edwin Merkord and Leona Hirt; sisters-in-law Maxine Merkord and Ruby Mueller; brothers-in-law Wilbert Weise, Marty Mueller, Lonnie Hirt and Wilmar Kirsch.
She is survived by a son Gary Weise and wife Cindy of Reno, Nevada; a daughter Renée Weise of Taylor, Texas; one Granddaughter Ashley Cirac and husband Kyle, along with Great Granddaughter Josie Mae Cirac and Great Grandson Grant Waylon Cirac, all of Reno, Nevada; sister-in-law Ima Jean Weise of Thorndale, Texas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
