Lonnie Ewalt Kruger, age 77 of Taylor, Texas passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on July 12, 2021, at St. David’s Hospital Medical Center in Round Rock, Texas.
Born and raised in Hutto, Texas to Ewalt (Jim) and Janey Dove Kruger on October 13, 1943. He attended Hutto Schools and graduated, he was on the Tennis Team and received many awards, Basketball Team, and the Hutto Hippo Six-Man Football Team, he was voted ‘Most Friendly’ and his classmates nicknamed him (Smiley). He attended Henderson County Jr College and received credit hours from the University of Texas and enlisted in the Marine Corp Reserves as military police.
He married Shirley Ann Scott on July 2, 1965, at the First Baptist Church of Elgin, Texas. They made their home in Taylor, Texas and had two children.
He was a hard-working man that provided for his family he worked for the Lonestar Gas Company, Alcoa Aluminum, and started his business called Kruger Quick Shade Landscaping, famous for the Live Oak trees that were planted all through the City of Taylor and surrounding towns and even Granger Lake, most of these trees are over forty years old. He expanded his business and added fence building and sprinkler systems then in 1989 worked for Construction Rent-A-Fence till 2006.
He enjoyed hunting trips with his buddies at Big Bend, and Colorado, fishing days with family and especially the day trip to Granger Lake with his only grandson. He also enjoyed playing card games, dominoes and BINGO, sitting quietly shelling pecans that he enjoyed bagging up to have ready to sale.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Margie Jane Kruger and Ruth K Williamson, one brother Raymond Kruger, nephews Rick A Meitzen and Randy Lynn Meitzen.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years Shirley Ann Scott Kruger, daughter Kristi Schulz and son in-law Russel Schulz and son Klifton Kruger and daughter in-law Alexandra Kruger and sister Lorine Meitzen and husband John, brother Jim Kruger and wife Annie, and grandchildren Kyra Kruger, Konstance Kruger, Conrad Schulz and Alyssa Schulz, and numerous nephews and nieces.
