Lloyd Eugene Darst

Lloyd “Gene” Darst, loving husband, father, child of God, and beloved Grandpa and Papa to his grandchildren, age 61, of Taylor, Texas went to heaven on November 4, 2023, after his battle with cancer.

Gene was born in 1962 in Seadrift, Texas, and married his wife Sharon in 2007.  Everyone knew Gene was a man of strong faith, and he was also a man of wit and humor, with beloved hobbies and love for his family.  Gene and his son, Taylor, could often be found outside or in the garage where they enjoyed building and working with their hands together.  He had a passion for flying, and for his 60th birthday was filled with joy with a gift to fly a fighter jet; a bucket list experience that filled him with joy and pride.  Gene was truly a man of God and it was evident to anyone he met.  While Gene’s strength showed every day of his life to those who knew him, his gentle heart, warm hugs, and playfulness was most well known by his grandchildren.  On many weekends between farm work activities, Gene could be found drawing pictures, flying kites, taking tractor rides, and snuggled in front of cartoons with any one of his five grandchildren.

Gene is survived by his wife, Sharon Darst; son, Taylor; stepson, Trey; stepdaughter, Ashley and husband John; grandchildren, Lyla, Samantha, Dallas, Kennedy, and Benicio; brothers, Marvin and wife Christine; and Byron; Aunt Linda and Uncle Terry. Gene also left behind extended family and beloved friends.

Visitation will be held from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, Wednesday, November 8th, at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor, Texas.

Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, November 9th at 11:00 am Providence Funeral Home, followed by graveside services in Seadrift, Texas at 4:00 pm.
