Libbie Slovacek Ruzicka, 98, of Taylor passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2018 at the Taylor S.P.J.S.T. facility surrounded by family. She was born March 16, 1920 in Granger, to John Slovacek and Annie Kovarik Slovacek.
Libbie attended the Waterloo School, and afterwards worked for Harris and Rose Melasky for the next 47 years. On Aug. 14, 1945 she married Marcel Bruno Ruzicka and they celebrated 35 years of marriage until his passing in 1980.
Libbie was known for her kind, generous and loving heart and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She was an excellent cook and was especially known by family and friends for her extraordinary kolaches. She was a true Christian lady whose devotion to her Lord and Savior were evident not only in her daily life, but in her faithful reading of the bible, her prayer books and praying the rosary.
She was baptized and confirmed in the Taylor Brethren Church, and then joined St. Mary's Catholic Church upon her marriage to Marcel.
On Dec. 29, 1951, her daughter Kathryn Ann was born, and on Nov. 4, 1958, her son Marcel Joseph was born.
She was a member of St. Ann's Altar Society, KJZT and VFW Auxilary. She loved being "Nannie" to her three precious granddaughters who were the apples of her eye.
Survivors are children Kathy Ruzicka Hughes and husband Danny; Marcel J. Ruzicka and wife Becky; grandchildren, Brian Hughes and wife Courtney, Amy Hughes Mohel and husband John, all of Taylor, Hailey Ruzicka Camden and husband Leo of Holland; and great granddaughters, Tatum Hughes, Maddison Mohel and Adeline Camden.
Services were held Thursday, Nov. 29, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with burial at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers were grandsons Brian Hughes, John Mohel and Leo Camden; and nephews Raymond Kaderka, Todd Ruzicka and Jack Mills.
Honorary pallbearer was Allen Ray David.
The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the staff at the S.P.J.S.T.
Rest Home and Compassus Hospice for their compassionate, loving care during her stay.
Memorials can be made to St. Mary’s Catholic School.
