Leroy Filla

September 30, 1935 — April 4, 2024

Leroy Albert Filla, 88, of Granger passed away Thursday, April 4, 2024.

Leroy Albert Filla was born on September 30, 1935, in Coupland, Texas, to Leo and Vlasta (Machu) Filla. He was the oldest of five children. Leroy graduated from Granger High School and served in the National Guard. He married Janice Tomlinson and from this marriage came four children: Gary, Carolyn, Brenda and Tommy. Over the years, Leroy and Janice also fostered children. Leroy was an avid farmer, but also had other numerous jobs over the years. Leroy never officially retired, as he continued to work from sun up to sun down. He could be found on a lawn mower mowing cemeteries, or on his farm working cattle. During this phase of his life, he met Gladys Prinz, and they were inseparable, spending every weekend together. If you saw Leroy, it was guaranteed he was wearing a pearl snap shirt and boots. He was an active member of the Brethren Church, and he enjoyed various activities with his family, such as playing dominos and fishing. Leroy was known for hosting all the family events and holidays. His fridge was fully stocked with soda, every room in his house was full of activity, every seat in his garage was occupied, and the yard was full of grandkids and great-grandkids. The memories will forever be cherished by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family and friends.

The family would like to thank Will-O-Bell nursing home and Scott & White hospice for their care.

Leroy is preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Vlasta; sister, Helen Raesz; brother-in-law, Raymond Raesz; brother, Dan Filla; sister-in-law, Helen Filla; brother-in-law, Tony Pavel; friend, Gladys Prinz; son, Gary Filla; grandson, Dylan Filla; great-grandsons, Keegan Bohac and Jameson Estrada.

Leroy is survived by his sister, Irene Pavel; his brother, Milton Filla (Debbie); daughters, Carolyn Estrada (Tony), and Brenda Filla Bartosh; son, Tommy Filla (Dawn); his sixteen grandchildren, Yvonne, Brandon, Chelsea, Jennalee, Jasmine, Garrison, Cameron, Cody, Colt, Elisa, Jasmine, Kaylee, Crystal, Ashley, Caleb, and Payton; and seventeen great-grandchildren.
