Laverne Weise

LaVerne Evelyn Simank Weise, 91, of Thorndale died Thursday, June 13, 2019 at SPJST Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation in Taylor, Texas.

LaVerne was born February 25 th , 1928 in Thrall, Texas to Elmo and Malinda (Lerche) Simank. She was baptized, confirmed and married at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Thorndale. She married Wilbert A. Weise of Thorndale on October 3 rd , 1948. The couple resided in rural Milam County, Thorndale, Texas and were blessed with three daughters, Vickie, Cindy and Wendy. LaVerne was a farmer’s wife until her husband passed away October 10, 1983, she then worked for Seventh Street Daycare in Taylor for many years. She loved cooking and if she wasn’t in the kitchen, she was outside gardening. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Thorndale. Throughout her life, she volunteered for various groups and activities at St. Paul, including the LWML.

LaVerne was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert A. Weise; daughter, Cindy Kay (Weise)Ebersol; parents Elmo and Malinda (Lerche) Simank; sister, Fayrene (Simank) Merkord; and two brothers, Dennis and James Simank.

LaVerne is survived by two of her daughters, Vickie and husband Robert Vitek of Hutto, Wendy and husband Mark Sims of Parker, Colorado; son-in-law, Barry Ebersol of Pagosa Springs, Colorado; grandchildren are Robert “Matthew” Vitek of Thorndale, Zachary Hanan Vitek of Ft. Worth, Cameron Nicole Sims and fiance’ Price Hernandez of San Antonio, and William “Michael” Sims of College Station; brother, Morris Simank and wife Patricia of Thorndale, sister-in-law Carol Simank of San Gabriel; sister-in-law Viola and husband Edgar Kunze of Austin; brother-in-law Melvin and wife Karene Weise of Thorndale; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation is scheduled from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Monday, June 17, 2019 at Providence Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Thorndale with Pastor Aaron Kalbas and Pastor Scott Schaller officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Pallbearers are: Matt Vitek, Zach Vitek, Michael Sims, Lanny Merkord, Byron Kunze, Steve Simank, Terrell Weise and Kevin Simank.

Memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church or the St. Paul Lutheran Church Memorial Arbor Fund.

Special thanks to her wonderful neighbors, Jimmy Ed and Geraldine Richter for their endless friendship, support, assistance, and encouragement. To Jimmy and Gracie Cargill for their friendship and being just a phone call away; Billy and Lou Biar for a lifetime of friendship;  Darren and Gavin Biar for their farming comradery; Randy Unnasch for also looking after the land; The Thorndale Volunteer Fire Department for their selfless service; Beth Richards for her loving assistance and companionship; the nurses, CNA’s, and caretakers for giving mom love and care in her final days. Finally, the vocalists: Tara Schlesinger, Julie Stermer and Deby Leschber - thank you for your heavenly voices.
