Kenneth Earl Yancey, Jr.

May 2, 1932 — October 24, 2018

Kenneth Earl Yancey Jr., 86, passed away early Wednesday morning, October 24, 2018 in Round Rock, Tx. with his family lovingly at his side. Kenneth was a rock to his family and without him life will not be the same. Kenneth was born May 2, 1932, in Galveston, TX, the only child of Kenneth and Vera Yancey.

Kenneth and his wife Yolanda of 46 years, have been residents of Coupland for the past 25 years where they enjoyed ranching in their retirement together. Prior to relocating to Coupland, Kenneth served his country with distinction in the United States Air Force as a pilot and civil engineer, earning the silver and bronze stars while serving his country during the Vietnam War.

Kenneth is a proud Aggie, Class of 63, where he earned his Master’s Degree in Architecture from Texas A&M University. After graduating from High School at the age of 16 he enlisted in the Marines, which only lasted 1 day after his mother found out and drove several hours across Texas to bring him home.  Following this incident, he attended Tarleton State University and received his undergraduate degree in Architecture from Texas Tech University.  Upon graduation he promptly joined the United States Air Force.

Kenneth enjoyed working with his hands. While stationed at the Pentagon in Washington D.C. he restored an old 1880's row house with Yolie and his sons to its original grandeur. In his retirement he continued to work in his shop making beautiful boxes for gifts to relatives and friends. If something was broken he would first fix it himself and then on occasion call the professionals.

Kenneth was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Century Club member at Texas A&M and a Member of the Military Officers Association of America.

Visitation will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylor Texas at 12:30 PM followed by a Mass at 2:00 PM. Reception to follow.

Funeral services will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, November 1, 2018, at 1:00PM.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Vera Yancey.

He is survived by his loving wife Yolanda, sons, Kenneth and Kelly and his wife Helen, and daughter Kimberly Petras and her husband George; and by three grandchildren, Kolin Yancey and his mother Yvonne Yancey, Kaitlin Petras, and Courtney Petras and his step daughter Belinda Trevino.

Kenneth’s family wishes to thank the staff at Hearthstone Hospice and St David’s Hospital medical team in Round Rock, TX for their exceptional care and compassion for Kenneth during his final days. We would also like to thank Father Keith for his support during this time.
