Kenneth Leslie McConchie Jr. passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 13, 2024 surrounded by his loved ones.
Ken was born to K.L. and Katherine McConchie on April 1, 1941 in Taylor, Texas. He was a proud member of the 1959 graduating class of Taylor High School and completed his secondary education at Southwest Texas State in San Marcos.
He began working at the family business, Taylor Motor Company, alongside his father and uncle in 1963, and ran it until 1999. Over his tenure at Taylor Motor he won numerous awards, from sales to service, and could always be found around the dealership with a grin and a good story.
Ken was an avid hunter and spent many years traveling across Texas, New Mexico, and Colorado in search of whitetail deer, mule deer and elk. He was known for his deer camp stories and was always up for a new adventure. He also enjoyed their cabin in Red River, New Mexico and spent summers exploring the trails on ATVs, fishing, and having neighbors get together on their porch for meals.
Ken was a loving father, doting grandfather, and a pillar in the Taylor community. He served as a Board Member of the City National Bank, St. James Episcopal Church, and the Johns Community Hospital Foundation Board. He was a member of the Taylor Brethren Church, hosted dozens of events at their river cabin along the San Gabriel, including the Taylor Brethren Church picnics, and would always greet you with a smile if you caught him at El Corral for breakfast, or Circleville Store for supper.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, K.L. and Katherine McConchie and son, Matthew McConchie. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Paulette, his daughter and son-in-law Anne and Bradley Hines, his granddaughter and her husband Mallory and Adam Tallas, and his faithful 4 legged companion; Maggie.
Visitation will be held at the McConchie River Cabin in Taylor, Texas on Friday, Dec. 20 from 5-9 p.m., with a Memorial Service and meal to follow at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21 at the Taylor Brethren Church. A guest book will be available for signing until 2 p.m. Friday afternoon at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Taylor Brethren Church.
