Juanita Orta Gomez

March 7, 1957 — December 24, 2021

Janie Orta Gomez, 64, of Thrall, passed away Friday, December 24, 2021.

She was born March 7, 1957, in Lubbock, to the late Augustine and Elly Orta. She married Joe Gomez in 1978 in a civil ceremony and they were married for 43 years.

While many saw Janie as a quiet person, once she opened up, she was an excellent source of laughter and joy. She loved the Dallas Cowboys and was always cheering them on – We know she was glad to hear that they made the playoffs. She enjoyed watching movies, novellas, and watching wrestling with her husband. She loved and enjoyed entertaining her grandkids by taking them to the movies, Six Flags and out to eat. She also enjoyed traveling; having visited Cancun, Cozumel, Florida, Tennessee, Jamaica, and Hawaii.

Janie retired from Taylor ISD in 2019. She also worked for many years at Intercraft and was their Employee of the Year in 1990. She would begin everyday by praying the rosary. She prayed for her family. She loved us so much. She put so many of her dreams on hold. She carried a heavy burden yet never complained. Now we know why her heart was so, so tired. Our hearts hurt desperately now, thinking of continuing life without our beloved Janie. We will miss her wonderful smile and her laughter. Our only consolation is that Janie left us with wonderful memories. She will be sorely missed.

She loved the song "Phone in Heaven" by Mike Manuel. She missed her daily phone calls with her Mom. We’re at peace knowing that she didn’t suffer and was in no pain. I believe that in her dreams she finally got that phone call from heaven, and Janie heard Mom's sweet voice once again and called her home.

Janie is survived by her husband, Joe Gomez; children, Gabriel Gomez and wife, Yvette, and Sophia Gomez. She leaves behind 6 Grandkids, Aaliyah Gomez, Sergio Franco, Faith Gomez, Trent Alderete, Nevaeh Gomez, and Miah Gomez. Janie is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Guadalupe Orta, Augustine Orta, Jr. and wife, Annette Perez Orta, Delores Orta Reyes, Jose Orta, Ninfa Orta Raya and husband, Miguel Raya, Robert Orta and wife, Sue Orta and George Orta and wife, Norma Orta, and numerous relatives in the Gomez, Ortiz, Orta and Tavarez lineage.
