Jon Lyn Stepanek, 64, passed away peacefully at his home in Georgetown, TX on July 15, 2024. He was born on June 1, 1960 to Ruth and William (Bill) Stepanek in Marengo, IA.
Jon graduated high school in 1978 and moved to Kerrville, TX to work at his uncle’s marble company. Inspired by his faith, he joined Covenant Players traveling across the US to spread God's word. There he met and married Susan "Sue" Atterbury in July 1982. They had a daughter Christina, in May 1983. The family moved to Washington State until Sue’s passing in 1993. Jon and Christina briefly lived in Kansas before settling in Portland, OR in 1995. They relocated to the Austin area in 2008 for Texas BBQ and sunshine. In 2015 he met his soon-to-be wife Judy, whom he married on March 24, 2016.
Jon had an adventurous spirit that in his early years manifested in his love of cars and motorcycles. He kept that spirit alive in his later years through trying new restaurants and going to the movies. He shared a special bond with his dog Max, who he referred to as his “favorite child” and was devastated by his passing in 2012. Jon was an exceptionally compassionate person who truly embodied the love of Christ. He found fulfillment in sharing that love not only through his gentleness and understanding but by praying for and with anyone he interacted with, particularly his family. His success in leadership at work, whether management or teaching, was undoubtedly due to his follower-ship of his Savior. He cherished every moment he spent with his two grandchildren Franklin and Bennett, who called him “Papa”. He loved to love and he loved to laugh. In his father Bill’s words, Jon was a good all around guy.
He is survived by his wife Judy Stepanek of Georgetown, TX; father William (Bill) Stepanek and stepmother Sharon Stepanek of Minneapolis, KS; daughter Christina Stepanek of Cedar Park, TX; brother Larry and wife Thu Nguyen; brother Steve Stepanek; sister Cheri Brumwell; step-brother Leland Loy and wife Dana, step-brother Leon Rumsey and wife Michelle; mother-in-law Evelyn Cervenka; stepchildren Brittany Funk and husband Nick, Stephanie Rogers and husband Bradley, and Jacqueline Penna and husband Cody; step-grandchildren Franklin and Bennett Funk; numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.
He is preceded in death by his mother Ruth Voelkel-Milner; wife Susan “Sue” Stepanek; grandparents Harold and Margaret Voelkel; grandparents William and Alma Stepanek; brother Darin Stepanek; brother-in-law Wesley Cervenka; stepsister Kellie Wiggins; beloved dog, Max.
The family will receive friends at St. Paul Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall (401 W 7th St, Taylor, TX 76574) for refreshments after the service.
