John Adolf Stefek, 86 of Granger, Texas went to be with Our Lord early Saturday, February 10, 2018.
John was born on December 24, 1931 to Joe J. and Mary (Knapek) Stefek of Granger, Texas
On November 17, 1952, he married the love of his life Cecilia (Zbranek) Stefek where they enjoyed 65 years. Together they raised one son and three daughters while he was farming and working in construction. From 1952 –1962 he worked for various construction companies; he went where the money was. He later started his own business, John Stefek Construction Company, and continued his building legacy for 46 years. He built over 300 custom homes in the Central Texas area before his retirement in 2008. In 1985 he finally took the time to build their own home in Granger where they currently reside. He shared this interest with his son Larry who in turn built a house for his family with the guidance of his dad. John was an inspiration to all his children and especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was admired for his kindness, smiling face and his laughter. He thoroughly enjoyed reminiscing, no one was ever a stranger.
He was a long-time member of Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Granger, the KJT Lodge and the Knights of Columbus. He worked at the Knights of Columbus Bingo on Sunday’s and Tuesday’s for 50 years. John and Cecilia both enjoyed playing bingo and taking trips to Louisiana, gaining or losing a little money with their friends. John had a passion for fishing back in the day and the family made numerous trips to Rosenberg, so he could fish with his brothers-in-law on the Colorado River. He also spent time with his grandsons and son-in-law fishing on Granger Lake and Lake Somerville. Periodically, John and Cecilia would shake a leg and enjoy dancing to some good ole’ Czech music with special friends and family. With attending so many weddings, he was able to teach his daughters how to dance the Polka’s and Waltz’s at an early age. John loved spending time with his family playing straight dominos or 42 and playing Chicken Foot with his children and grandchildren. He always put his family first.
John was preceded in death by his parents Joe J. and Mary Knapek Stefek. Brothers, Joe E., Emil, Bill, Victor and Jim Stefek. Sisters, Mary Ann Strmiska and Lillian Schwertner.
