John Richard Lawhon (Dickie) passed away unexpectedly Monday, May 28, 2018 at his home in Taylor, TX. He was 65 years old.
John was born November 28, 1952 in Taylor, TX to Ann and H.M. (Dick) Lawhon.
John graduated from Taylor High School in Taylor, TX. He joined the Air Force in 1972 and proudly served his country receiving an honorable discharge as Sargent in 1976. He operated his own welding shop for many years and drove a school bus for many years. John loved rodeo and was a bull rider for a time. John, along with his friends, and later after marrying never missed attending the Fort Worth rodeo every year starting in the early ‘80’s. He was a member of the Taylor Rodeo Association for many years. He also loved fishing and provided many meals. He was a member of the Taylor Rodeo Association for many years.
John was preceded in death by his parents Ann and H.M. Lawhon and his in-laws Albert and Elizabeth Thigpen. He is survived by: his loving wife and best friend Margie; step-daughters Tammy Whitehead (Chad) and Liz Barker (Wade); granddaughter Ava; grandsons Kaleb, Zach and Jace; sister-in-law Dianne Westfall (David); brothers-in-law Dale Thigpen (Melinda); Eddy Thigpen (Pam) and Mike Thigpen (Sha); and many nieces, nephews, cousins and lots of loving friends.
Pallbearers are: Mike Thigpen; Chad Sammons; Wade Barker; Carroll Bachmayer; Rocky Lemmon; Russel Foster; Phill Wenske; and Marvin Matysek.
Visitation will be Thursday May 31 6-8 PM at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor. Memorial service is on Friday, June 1 at 2 PM at Providence.
