Jerry Wayne Tallas was born to Jerry Tallas and Francis (Volcik) Tallas on November 23rd, 1953 in Taylor Texas. He was a proud alumnus of Taylor High School where he graduated in 1972. Jerry was a lover of baseball and he played throughout high school, Jerry was also on several teams outside of school, including the community league teams for both Noack and Giddings.
After high school, Jerry met his wife of 46 years, Carol (Boriack) Tallas. They lived in various parts of Texas for his work but eventually settled back in Taylor where they raised their three sons Eric, Chad, and Adam. When his boys were growing up you could often find Jerry on the baseball field coaching their little league teams, or behind the BBQ pit on the weekends at various cook-offs.
Jerry retired from his 30 years of service with TXDOT in 2003. He then spent some time as an instructor for TEEX, traveling Texas to teach about road and construction safety. Jerry was highly revered for his knowledge in highway construction and worked for various companies lending his expertise on projects around Texas. In his free time Jerry enjoyed researching and looking for Native American Artifacts, BBQing, spending time with his grandchildren, and listening to polka music. Jerry could often be found on his Gator catching up with neighbors, tending to his gardens, and giving treats to the neighborhood dogs.
Jerry is survived by his wife Carol (Boriack) Tallas, son Eric Tallas and wife Amber (Goines) Tallas, son Chad Tallas and wife Amy (Johnson) Tallas, son Adam Tallas and wife Mallory (Strmiska) Tallas, grandchildren MaKenzie Tallas, Landon Tallas, Larry Bowling, and Kimberlee Yamasaki, sister Linda and husband Jesse Posposil, sister Cindy and husband Greg Buzan, and brother in law Paulie Paseman. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents Jerry and Francis (Volcik) Tallas, sister Judy Paseman, and father and mother in law Clearance and Edna (Schneider) Boriack.
Pallbearers at Jerry's service will consist of family and friends that he held closest to him; Bryan Zak, Mark Edwards, Keith Sutton, Andrew Mayer, John Wuensche, and Jeffrey Selucky. Honorary Pallbearers will include Johnny Zak, Erwin Stauffer, Herbert Brinkmeyer, and Ray Gonzalez.
Visitation will be held at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor, Texas on Friday, October 9th from 6-8pm, with a Graveside Memorial to follow on Saturday October 10th at 10am at the City of Taylor Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations made in Jerry’s name to the American Cancer Society
