Jeanette Stone Hunt

November 22, 1929 — May 5, 2022

Jeannette Stone Hunt, age 92, of Temple, TX passed away on May 5, 2022 at Kruse Village in Brenham, TX.

Celebration of her full life will be at 2 p.m. on May 13, 2022 at Providence Funeral Home Chapel in Taylor, TX with Pastor Dobbs officiating and Associate Pastor Godfrey assisting of Pine Island Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Taylor City Cemetery.

She was born an identical twin on November 22, 1929 in Taylor, TX to Texas Ranger, Truman Joe Stone and Gladys (Berry) Stone Corum. She married the love of her life, William Ray Hunt, of Georgetown, TX on December 12, 1947, and together they set an example for us to follow.

Jeanette was baptized in 1935 at First Baptist Church of Galveston, TX and led a life that was based on truth, faith, hard work, dignity, and helping others. Whether it was having an outfit custom made for her girls’ rodeo contests, making homemade baked goods for family and friends, caring for sick loved one, or planning a huge holiday meal at their house for cousins and all; she knew how to do it and make it look easy. She was the ultimate dinner host, and made you feel at home. “Mamaw” as the grandkids called her, was there to kiss the scrapes, take care of them, buy them a new set of western clothes, or play in the water with the kids on a summer day. Jeanette didn’t care for technology at all and would let you know her feelings about it. It was reassuring to go to their home whether in La Porte, Elgin, or Temple, and know that the outside world was kept out, and we were safe. Things moved slower there, and for the better. She was a rock and remained steadfast through the years for our family. When traveling, she made sure her and Papaw were extra, extra early as it was a point made clear to her growing up - not to be late!

Countless times her and Ray would go to rodeo reunions to see friends and former rodeo competitors, or family reunions and recount memories, a favorite thing for them to do. They loved the family they created, and when it grew more - they were there. When someone passed away, they were there again. So, they began tending and beautifying their family’s graves, even passed the age when most would stop. Jeanette was a true horse lover and enjoyed riding and participating in rodeos for a big part of her life. Her and Ray made it a point to pass down their love of horses and the competitive sport of rodeo to their girls, Renee and Sheila. They also taught our family about forgiveness, love of family, and loving and honoring God. Her and Ray used their bibles, participated in Baptist church services, prayed often, and served God in many ways over the years. She will be remembered for her beautiful, mischievous smile and infectious laughter.

She goes to join her Lord and loved ones that have already joined Him in heaven, her husband of 66 years, Ray Hunt of Temple, TX, her identical twin sister, Jeaneva Stone Knox and husband, Wayne “Corky” Knox of La Porte, TX and first grandson, Chad Emanuel Dennison.

She is survived by daughter, Renee Wagner and husband, Richard, of Hempstead; daughter, Sheila Dennison and husband, John, of Hempstead; granddaughter, Michelle Winkleman and husband, Eric, of Hempstead; grandson, Cody Dennison and wife, Jonni Ann, of Sweetwater; granddaughter, Robbin Miller and husband, Beau, of Thompson Station, TN; five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.

Pallbearers will be Michelle and Eric Winkleman, Cody and Jonni Ann Dennison, and Robbin Miller and Honorary Pallbearers will be Janet Lee “LeeLee” Schooley and Wayne Scott “Scotty” Knox.

The family of Jeanette Hunt would like to thank the staff and caregivers of Kruse Village Assisted Living as well as Brazos Valley Hospice for the excellent care of our mother and grandmother, and especially nurse Haley for her kind and loving care efforts.
