In Loving Memory of James William Thrasher
James William Thrasher, age 83, of Canyon Lake, passed away on October 27, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Spruce Pine, Alabama on May 30, 1940, to the proud parents, Hollie Davis Thrasher and Alter Berta Wallace Thrasher. Raised in the heart of Alabama, James had deep roots in his home state.
James was a graduate of Ensley High School in Ensley, Alabama, and he went on to serve his country with great pride in the United States Air Force. It was during his time in the military that he discovered the values of discipline, honor, and dedication that would become the foundation of his life.
In 1961, James married the love of his life, Betty Gebert, and for 61 years, they shared a bond that was as strong as it was enduring. Together, they created a beautiful family, including their son, James William Thrasher the 2nd, and their daughter, Tamara Boone, and their spouses, Lorrie and Jimmy, respectively.
James was a beloved grandfather to Justin and Cody Thrasher, Mitchell and Sean Tolliver, Denise Pompeu, Cody McGraw, and Hollie Welch, as well as a cherished great-grandfather to nine wonderful great-grandchildren, and uncle to many, many nieces and nephews. His love and devotion to his family were evident in the countless moments they shared, and the memories they created together.
While we mourn James' passing, we celebrate the wonderful life he lived. He was preceded in death by, Jessica Thrasher, as well as his parents, Hollie Davis and Alter Berta Thrasher. James was a devoted brother to Paul, Byron, and Tommy Thrasher, and his memory will forever hold a special place in their hearts.
James was not just a loving family man, but he was also an avid NASCAR race fan and a dedicated University of Alabama football enthusiast. He could always be counted on to have a good story or a joke to share, brightening the lives of those around him with his sense of humor and camaraderie.
In his passing, we remember James as a man who deeply loved his family, and in return, they loved him wholeheartedly. He will be greatly missed, but his spirit and the love he shared will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
May James William Thrasher rest in eternal peace, and may his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.
