James Nelson Nixon passed away peacefully on June 6, 2024 at 89. Nelson was born on Feb. 19, 1935 in Bartlett, TX to James Albert and Minnie Marie Nixon. He lived in Bartlett the majority of his life. He was a barber for the Temple VA for 30 years and he owned Nixon barbershop in Bartlett until he retired in 2015. He was proudly married to Celia for 50 years and they had 3 wonderful daughters. He enjoyed being outdoors, working with his hands, doing woodwork, raising animals, and spending time with his family. When not busy he enjoyed watching RFD TV and loved watching the Rodeo. He loved eating Sodi’s bbq every Saturday after work, the buffet at Sirloin stockade, and Catfish Parlor.
Nelson is preceded in death by his wife Celia, daughter Tina Nixon and grandson PFC T.J. Hewett.
He is survived by his daughter Sharon Hewett and husband Richard, daughter Jan Shuler and husband Claude. He was PEPAW to 3 grandchildren: Rick Hewett and wife Julie, Jason Shuler and wife Haley and Mickayela Bywater and husband Cory, 12 great grandkids and 2 great great grandsons.
Graveside Visitation will be held at 9 am followed by a 10am service at the Bartlett City Cemetery on Monday June 10. The family will have a Celebration of Life for Nelson and Tina in Bartlett after the services.
