Irene Walton

Irene Christine Walton of Hutto, TX passed away at the age of 86 on January 7, 2022.  Irene was born in Thorndale, TX on June 5, 1935 to parents Robert and Christine Schneider-Garrett. The family, including brother Robert Eugene, moved to Hutto; she attended Hutto schools through her graduation in 1953. Irene was a Hutto letterman in softball, volleyball and basketball.

In August 1954, she married Elmer Laroy Walton of Jonah and moved to Austin. She was a licensed beautician for many years and a salesperson at Scarbroughs in downtown Austin. She was dedicated to helping ladies look their best!

With the birth of daughter Kimberly Ann in 1958 and son Michael Laroy Walton in 1962, she transitioned to the role of devoted homemaker and mother. Irene was an accomplished and talented gardener and canned fruits and vegetables. She was an excellent seamstress and often provided her daughter with the latest fashions made by her own hand. Her family and friends fondly remember the fine meals and celebrations she prepared for holidays, birthdays and everyday occasions.

Laroy and Irene loved to go to dances and enjoyed memorable family vacations across the country. One of her favorite family trips was a yearly visit to Galveston. Every July brought a week of festivities at the Williamson County Old Settlers’ Reunion with family, friends and lots of entertainment.

In 2000, Irene and Laroy moved a final time to their farm south of Hutto. They enjoyed the peace and quiet following all those years in Austin!

Irene is survived by her husband Laroy Walton, her daughter Kimberly Ann Johnson and husband John Johnson, her son Michael Walton and wife Susan Walton and one grandson John Garrett Johnson, sister in law Carolyn Garrett and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside service will be at Taylor City Cemetery in Taylor with Pastor George Qualley officiating. Arrangements are by Providence Funeral Home.
