Helen Margaret Scruggs

Helen Margaret Scruggs, 90, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, June 2, 2018, at The Cottages of Chandler Creek in Round Rock.

Helen was born on September 18, 1927, in Taylor, Texas to Robert and Agnes (Green) Werchan.  On December 6, 1946, she was joined in marriage to Hollis A. Scruggs.  Together, they raised 3 sons; Allen, Steven, and Farrell.  Hollis preceded her in death, after 57 years of marriage, on December 7, 2003.  She was also preceded in death by her parents, and her son, Steven N. Scruggs, on November 6, 2017.

Helen was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Taylor.  She had a tremendous love for any of God’s creatures and cared for and rehabilitated many dogs, cats, rabbits, squirrels, birds, and goats throughout the years.

She loved playing dominos and spending time with her family.  She was very proud of her family and their accomplishments.  She will always be remembered as our “Minnie Helen”.

She is survived by two sons, Allen V. Scruggs of Taylor and Dr. Farrell G. Scruggs and wife Kathy of Huntsville.  Daughter-in-law, Cheryl Scruggs of Taylor.  Six grandchildren, Zane Hyzak and husband Randy of Las Vegas, Robert Scruggs and wife Carla of Taylor, Holly Stephenson and husband Jon of Houston, Jared Scruggs and wife, Shane of Houston, Stacy Stork and husband Jeff of Taylor, and Scott Scruggs and wife, Nicole, of Georgetown.  She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 6 from 12:00-2:00 PM at Providence Funeral Home.  A private graveside service will follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 401 West Seventh Street, Taylor, TX 76574.

The family would like to thank Pastor George Qualley and Pastor Walter Miller for their visits and prayers.  They would also like to thank the staff and nurses at The Cottages of Chandler Creek for their never-ending love and support.  You were truly Minnie’s extended family.  And, also, to Resolution Hospice for the loving care in her final days.
