The sun rose February 6, 1932 in Bastrop, Texas when a baby girl was born to George Green and Mary Kellough Green. They named her Helen M. Green. She was the third child.
Mr. and Mrs. Green later moved to Taylor Texas where Helen grew up as a child. She attended an all-black public school, called Blackshear O.L. Price. Helen graduated from Blackshear O.L. Price High School and after graduation she attended college. Helen worked at Taylor Care and Sweetbriar Nursing home for over 30 years.
Helen met Billy Johnson in Taylor where she later united in holy matrimony with him. To this union, 2 children were born, Linda and Rodney Johnson. They enjoyed life itself. Helen was a vibrant, giving, talkative person who never met a stranger. She always met you with a smile on her face. Later in life she met and married Willie Ed. Rance. He was a retired military man. They were married 28 years before he died. After years of living in Taylor, she had to move in with her granddaughter (Kenyatta Johnson) in Killeen who was her caregiver. Just by looking at her you would never know how she really felt because she was always smiling.
On Friday, October30, with all her family & friends around her at Seton Hospital in Harker Heights - Killeen, God told Helen it was time to come home. She immediately obeyed with a smile on her face and surrendered to His will. Helen leave to cherish her memories.
Helen is preceded in death by her Parents and Grandparents, both of her husbands, daughter Linda Johnson, son Rodney Johnson, one granddaughter Katara D.
