Helen Edith Skrahak Filla, 81, of Taylor passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, July 9 th , 2021.
Helen was born on May 22 nd , 1940 in Holland, Tx. to Joe and Frances Skrahak. She grew up in Dallas and moved to Taylor her senior year, where she graduated high school. She married the love of her life, Dan Filla, on March 19, 1960 and they celebrated 61 cherished years of marriage. To this marriage they welcomed five children, Daniel Jr, Albert, Danny, Edward, and Robert. She also helped raise her brother in-law Milton. Helen followed in her mother’s footsteps and at the age of 13 went to beauty school and began working alongside her mom. Once she retired, she went back to her love of working with children and spent many years working in the infant room at St. Paul and Kid’s Country Daycare. Helen’s interest included ceramics, gardening, garage sales, painting, collecting dolls and antiques. She devoted her time to family, loved trips to the coast, fishing, camping and celebrating the holidays. What she enjoyed most was to be surrounded by her family and loved ones sharing stories and gaining the attention of all her boys.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Joe Skrahak and Frances Slampa, in-laws, Leo and Valasta Filla, two sons, Daniel Jr and Robert and beloved sister in-law, Helen Raesz. She is survived by her devoted husband Dan; sons, Albert, Danny (Jan), Edward (Adria), and Lisa Filla; grandchildren, Daniel (Emily), Heather, Robbie, William and Emily Filla and Cole, Chloe and Cate Canseco; great grandchild Miles Filla. Extended family includes Leroy Filla, Milton(Debbie) Filla, Irene Pavel and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, July 16, 2021 at Providence Funeral Home. Helen will be laid to rest at the Taylor City Cemetery following the service.
