Halmer Vann Weldon

April 9, 1952 — October 28, 2023

Halmer Vann Weldon, 71, passed away unexpectedly on October 28, 2023, in Hutto, Texas. Beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he will be deeply missed.  A man whose life centered on family and faith, Vann had a ready smile, a gift for storytelling, and an unlimited willingness to lend a hand wherever needed.

He was born on April 9, 1952, in Canyon, Texas to Glen and Odessa (Vann) Weldon. He spent his childhood and teenage years in Oklahoma, graduating from Chickasha High School in 1970. He joined the Navy in 1972 and, by his calculation, spent the next 5 years, 11  months and 13 days seeing new parts of the country and the world while developing expertise in nuclear reactor controls. During this time, he discovered his gift for training and counseling, key to his later professional life. After the Navy, he built on his training to enter a career in the nuclear power industry.  While working and raising his family, he studied and over time completed a Bachelor of Science focusing on Business and Nuclear Science.  His employment journey returned him to Texas in the mid-1980s, working for Houston Lighting & Power. He retired from his last employer, Electric Reliability Council of Texas, Inc., in 2017.

Retirement brought him more precious time to spend with family and friends at home and on the road. A highlight was a church mission in Nauvoo, IL where he and Jeannie served as guides, reenacting 19th Century life to illustrate important history of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for visitors from all over the world.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Toni Lejuana Weldon and Nea Watha Weldon Price.

In addition to his wife Jean (Borrebach) Weldon, he is survived by his brother, Lowell Glen Weldon (Patricia Ast) ; his children, Lola Weldon, Sharon Jimenez (Uriel), Lori Quintanilia (Roy), Matthew Weldon (Lissette Garcia), Mark Weldon, Paul Gambardella (Lisa Bernadzikowski), and Matthew Gambardella; ten grandchildren, Isaiah Penka (Constance Ford), Hayden Hakala, Lindsey Jimenez, Donavann Weldon, Cora Weldon, Adam Weldon, Gabriel Weldon, John Weldon, Aiden Gambardella, and Bryan Gambardella; and great-grandchild, Cillian Penka.

The family will receive visitors on Friday, November 3rd, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Providence Funeral Home 807 Carlos G Parker Blvd NW, Taylor, TX 76574.

A visitation will be at 9:00am on November 4th at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,  2800 North Drive, Taylor, TX.  Service of remembrance will take place after the visitation at 10:00 am at the Church  immediately followed by interment at Hutto Cemetery, 100 County Road 135.
