Gregory Gerald Dawson, age 64 of Bartlett, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2022. Greg was born on December 14, 1957 in Holland, Texas to Lois and the late Jerry Dawson of Bartlett. He was baptized at Saint John Lutheran Church and attended Bartlett schools. Growing up, Greg was a well-known and accomplished athlete. He had the rare honor of receiving the “All Cen-Tex" award in football during his freshman year of high school. He later followed in his father’s footsteps and found a career in truck driving. He was blessed to make several lifelong friends while hauling commodities for local farmers.
While Greg journeyed down a difficult road, he continued to bless those around him with his great sense of humor. His witty personality lit up a room with laughter. Greg often wore a smile and waved to those passing by. He was a simple man and enjoyed spending his time finding odds and ends and turning them into treasures. Greg often extended his love to others by gifting the items he found and restored. He enjoyed country music, a comfortable rocking chair, the warmth of good company, and a cold Dr. Pepper.
Greg will be remembered by his children Lee Ann and Steven Barnhill, Gregory “Bubba” Dawson, Kirby and J’Lee Dawson, Krystal and Tyler Derstine; grandchildren, Brennen and Brayden Barnhill, Jaycee and Jayden Dawson, Ty, Tug, and Tripp Dawson, and Margo Derstine; his mother Lois Dawson; siblings Pam and Bill Terrell, Neal and Donna Dawson, Dale Dawson, Cary Dawson, Paula VanPraag and Gary Kleypas, Brad and Karen Dawson, as well as many nieces and nephews.
