Gloria LaVerne (Ditto) Stauffer was born on September 9, 1928 in Belmena, Texas to Edgar and Ola Ditto. She was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Cameron, Texas in 1936. She graduated from Cameron High Yoe High School in 1945. She met Roy O. Stauffer on one of her bus rides from Cameron to Austin, and they began dating. She and Roy were married in Thrall, Texas on July 2, 1950. She and Roy had two children; Pamela Diane and Jay Scott.
They attended St. Martin’s Lutheran Church, where she was confirmed in 1953. They were members there until they transferred their membership to Redeemer Lutheran.
LaVerne was employed by the Texas Highway Department for seven years, and later by the Texas Employment Commission, now Texas Workforce. She was a state employee for 40 years, before retiring in 1986.
After retirement, she and Roy enjoyed many years of traveling; being able to visit every state in the United States at least once, as well as most of Canada. Their best trip was to the Hawaiian Islands for their 50 th wedding anniversary.
LaVerne is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Roy O. Stauffer, who passed away on November 20, 2004. Also preceding her were her parents, Edgar and Ola Ditto; sister, Mildred Wagner and brother-in-law Bill; and a brother, Raymod Ditto and sister-in-law, Ida.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories her daughter, Pam, and husband Ron Rattan of Austin; and a son, Dr. Jay Stauffer and wife Camille of Fredericksburg, TX. Grandchildren are Brandon Rattan and wife Anna of San Francisco, CA and Jessica (Rattan) Fetzer and husband Donald of Houston, TX. John David, Elizabeth, Joshua, Alexander and Nichols Stauffer, all of Fredericksburg, TX. Great-grandchildren are Dillon and Jace Fetzer. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Maryann Stauffer, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Wednesday, September 22, at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor, Texas.
Funeral Services will be held to Celebrate LaVerne’s life at 12:30 pm on Thursday, September 23, at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Austin, Texas.
She will be laid to rest at the Taylor City Cemetery in Taylor, Texas.
