Gladys Ruth (Hughes) Mott

July 6, 1921 — December 5, 2019

Gladys Ruth Hughes Mott, at 98 years, graduated from her earthly life to eternal life with her Lord and Savior on December 5, 2019 at Sunrise Cinco Ranch in Katy.

Gladys was born July 6, 1921, in Lee County to George Daniel and Irma Ruth Hughes. She grew up in the community of Beaukiss on a small farm with her parents, three brothers (Ted, Winston and Layton), and two sisters (Lillian and Jean).

Some of her most treasured memories were centered around her life on that small piece of land. All her family loved music. They gathered on the front porch of her home and played a variety of instruments and sang together in harmony. She and her brother, Winston, spent hours roaming the countryside, climbing trees, swinging from grapevines, and singing their favorite songs.

She attended school in a one room schoolhouse in Beaukiss and then moved to Taylor where she attended Taylor High School. While living and working in Taylor, she met, fell in love with and married her husband, Orbin Mott. During their 58 years together, they were blessed with three children, Orbin Darrell, Nelda Ruth and Sharon Kay.

To those who knew and loved her most, she was known as Meemaw. She adored her grandchildren who in turn loved her and loved playing Skip-Bo, Yahtzee, Hand and Foot, and 42 dominos. By doing so, she taught them the valuable lessons of being a good sport, having a witty sense of humor, using their creativity, working hard and showing love and compassion for others.

As much she loved and adored her family, she loved God so much more. She was a faithful member of New Hope Christian Church in Hutto, Texas. Her many years of service included teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible Schools, leading women’s devotionals, and hosting Bible studies. She knew in a very personal way the power of prayer. She was a prayer warrior for her family, her friends, her pastors and her church family. She will forever be remembered and cherished for her devotion to God and to her family and friends.

Gladys is survived by her children, Darrell and Peggy Mott, Nelda and Alvaro DeHoyos, and Kay and Dennis Hamann; grandchildren, Jeff and Jenny Mott, Kelley and Trey Bachmayer, Kevin Mott and Sonia Garcia, Derrick Durham, Kristyn and Doug Edney, Dyron and Hailey Durham, Heather and Craig Cornelius, Joshua and Hayley Hamann; twelve great grandchildren; sister, Jean Hughes Gaulding, Dorothy Mott Hughes, and Clara Mott, and a multitude of nephews and nieces whom she loved dearly.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 from 5:30pm-7:30pm at Providence Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at 1:00pm at Providence Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Taylor City Cemetery.
