George Martin Steidel

George Steidel, 70, of Austin passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on May 16th, 2024.

George Martin Steidel was born on August 1st, 1953 in Glen Ridge, New Jersey to Ernest and Lila (Taylor) Steidel. He grew up with two sisters, Alison and Valerie. George graduated from high school in 1971. He spent his young adulthood living in Colorado, Pennsylvania, and California before finally settling in Austin in 1992.

George held a variety of occupations throughout his life, some of the most notable being bartender, house flipper, and electrician. George is fondly remembered by friends and family for being a railroad enthusiast and a diehard New York Giants fan. His other hobbies included photography, reading, attending live music events, staying active at the YMCA, and enjoying the beautiful walking trails in Austin.

George is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Gayle; two children, Justin and Shannon; four grandchildren, Elliana, Timothy, Silas, and Lovenicka; and his first wife, Linda. He was fortunate to have many close friends and family members in his life, including his stepdaughter, Emily, and his best friend, Steve, as well as many cousins and other extended family.
