Genuel Almodovar

December 24, 1942 — January 31, 2025

Gringo, 82, of Round Rock, TX, passed away on January 31, 2025. He was known for his warmth, love of storytelling, and his joy in bringing people together.

Born on December 24, 1942, in Gurabo, Puerto Rico, Gringo was the beloved son of Pedro Almodovar and Ramona Fortiz. He married Candida at a very early age, and once they settled down, their home was always filled with the sounds of laughter and celebration. Though he may not have been the one planning the events, he thrived in them, always entertaining a willing audience with his stories. Many who knew him will recall the countless gatherings at their family home, especially after moving to Antioch in the third grade.

Gringo had many passions throughout his life. Retiring early from the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) allowed him to begin enjoying his passions early on. He found joy in home construction projects, flipping homes, boating, and entertaining. Summers were often spent on the water, where he enjoyed taking his family on slow, leisurely boat cruises around the lakes. Later in life, when he and his family moved to Texas, they continued the tradition of welcoming friends and loved ones into their home, hosting countless parties and social gatherings. Even after settling into his new life, he remained at the heart of every pool party, dinner, and brunch, always ready to share a laugh and a tale.

Those who knew Gringo will fondly remember his colorful and animated stories—tales that grew even more elaborate over time. Even as dementia took hold, he never lost his charm, and friends and family graciously indulged him with smiles and kindness.

Though his time here has come to an end, there is little doubt that somewhere, a new party is beginning, and Gringo is right at the center of it, doing what he loved most.

Gringo is preceded in death by his parents, Pedro Almodovar and Ramona Fortiz; his five siblings, Moises, Ezekiel, Mirta, Norma, and Pedro; and his son, Jeffrey Almodovar.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Candida; his children, Ramonita, Rodney (Randy) Almodovar, and Genuel Jr. (Doreen) Almodovar; five grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren;his brother Abdiel Almodovar, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday February 23rd, 2025, at 12:30 PM CST at 1101 TH Johnson Drive, Taylor, TX (Mom's house).
