Gene Nathan Loyd of Taylor, age 80, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, December 6, 2017 in Temple, Texas. Born on November 14, 1937 in Dallas, Texas to John Edward Loyd and Elizabeth Neuhaus Loyd, he was one of four children. Gene spent his childhood in DeSoto, Texas where he graduated from Lancaster High School and later attended Texas Tech University where he majored in music.
In 1960, Gene accepted a position with Braniff International Airways in Dallas. Gene moved to Houston to join Trans-Texas Airways in 1963, which later became Texas International Airlines, and later merged with Continental Airlines. His career spanned 41 years with the airline industry, progressing from a reservationist to computer programmer. His love of travel took him to all continents, except for one, Antarctica.
Gene was a most kind and thoughtful person. During his career he would work holidays, allowing his coworkers to spend the time with their families. He retired from Continental Airlines in 2001 to farm with his best friend, John Gola, in Taylor, Texas. Gene loved all the animals on the farm, especially his dogs and cats. In keeping with Gene’s kind heart, he frequently rescued animals he would find along the country roads. Recently, he had a special rescued dog, J.J., who had to be in Gene’s lap wherever he went.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Welfred Loyd and John Edward Loyd, Jr.
Gene will be dearly missed by his best friend, John Gola; twin sister, Jeannette Weeden of The Woodlands and her husband Gerald Weeden; nieces and their spouses, Julie W. Harris (Steven B.), Sherrie Arnold (Barto), Elizabeth Harris (Billy), Frances Swedlund (Charles); nephew Robert Loyd (Yetta), numerous grand and great-grand nieces and nephews and numerous acquired friends in Taylor.
