Eugenio "Gene" De La Rosa

March 6, 1926 — May 6, 2020

Eugenio (Gene) De La Rosa 94 of Taylor, passed away peacefully at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple on May 6, 2020. He was born March 6, 1926 to Julia and Francisco De La Rosa in Cameron, Texas. On September 6, 1950 he married the love of his life, Adelina Rios. The shared 52 years together.

He served in the Army Air Service Group as Fire Fighter Division 383 and a Carbine Marksman. He received the Army of Occupation Medal and World War II Victory Medal. Upon his return home he worked 40 years for the City of Taylor Street Dept. as a heavy equipment operator.

He is preceded in death by his wife and sister, and two great grandkids.

He is survived by his daughters Terri Carrizales and Ernest, Josephine De La Rosa, Christina Flores and husband Alfred, Pauline Samaniego and husband Joe, Stella De La Rosa, son’s Eugene De La Rosa, Jr. and wife Ofelia, Richard De La Rosa and wife Liz. Twenty grandkids, 32 great grandkids, and 2 great great grandkids.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Rosary following at 7:00 PM on Thursday May 14th, 2020 at Providence Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday May 15, 2020 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Pall bearers are his grandsons, Adam and Stephen Flores, Jeremy Bean, Marcos Urbina, Joseph and Jonathan Samaniego, Richard and Francisco De La Rosa. Honorary pall bearers are Christopher and David Carrizales, Victor De La Rosa and Cory Bean.
