Emil Albert Bachmeyer, 88, of Taylor departed for his heavenly home on Thursday, June 17, 2021, at the age of 88.
Emil was born at home in Circleville, TX on Christmas Day 1932 to his parents Emil & Lydia (Rieger) Bachmeyer and was always proudly touted as her “Christmas Baby” by his mother. She forgot many things, but never forgot his birthday in her entire 100 years of life. He proudly served his country in the Army for 3 years during the Korean War. Emil shared a beautiful, loving marriage with his wife Betty (Jones) for over 57 years prior to her death in 2012. The two were married on May 14, 1955, at Christ Lutheran Church in Noack, TX where they remained lifelong members. Emil served as an Elder and financial secretary for many years. He and Betty also enjoyed planting shrubs, trees and flower beds at their church home and spent countless hours joyfully tending to their care.
Emil spent his career with IGC/TXU working in the coal mines in Rockdale where he was proudly involved as supervisor in the erection of one of the two draglines. He was quite the craftsman using his skills alongside Betty in building their own home from 1963-1965. They also bought and remodeled seven rental properties and built three more rental homes doing most of the work themselves.
In his spare time after retirement, he spent many weekends at the deer lease with his son, grandson and hunting buddies. He never actually shot a deer; he just enjoyed the time spent in the outdoors and surrounded by family and friends. In his younger years he enjoyed fishing and camping at the San Gabriel River with the family and his mother and thoroughly enjoyed his fishing trip to Cabo where they caught so many fish, he finally just laid his rod down and said, “I’m done, no more”!
Our beloved Daddy, Paw Paw, & Old Paw Paw was also known as Sonny and Bud. He answered to anything you wanted to call him…just don’t call him late to dinner! He DID enjoy his meals! He loved sharing mealtime with family and friends either at home cooking his delicious BBQ and fresh veggies from his garden or going out for his favorite Mexican food. His quick wit never missed a beat. He was always a jokester and thrived on giving anyone he loved a hard time. He always said he only “picked on you” if he liked you…and he sure liked a lot of people! His love for his family was immeasurable. He was always there to help in ANY way possible even if it were to just give you one of his great big bear hugs. His children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were his proudest achievements and his biggest fans.
Emil was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife as well as his brother LeeRoy Bachmeyer, sisters, Verna Mae Harwood, Eleanor (Babe) Bearden, & Nelda (Short) Boney.
He leaves behind his loving family: sons Michael (Anita Holubec) of Taylor, Randall (Karen) of Huntsville, AL and daughter Penny Hubnik of Salado. Grandchildren: Angie (Seth) Jordan, Aaron (Brooke) Bachmeyer, Kaitlin Bachmeyer, Shelbi (Coby) Jackson and Weston Hubnik. Great Grandchildren: Audrie & Zac Jordan, Jax, Knox & Lenyx Jackson and Jace Bachmeyer. Sister: Esther Schroeder.
He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews and countless extended family members and friends. A special thanks to his dear friend Edith Remmel & caregiver Holli Sparkman for their friendship and loving care.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 24 with family available from 5:00 to 7:00pm. Services will be held at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor on Friday, June 25 at 2:00pm with burial to follow at Taylor City Cemetery.
