Eliazer "Elly" Orta

May 26, 1938 — February 23, 2019

Miss Elly Orta, 80, of Taylor passed away Saturday, February 23, 2019 at her home.

Visitation will be 6:00-8:00pm with Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00pm Friday, March 1, 2019 at Providence Funeral Home, Taylor, TX. Funeral Mass will be held 1:00pm Saturday, March 2, 2019, Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Taylor City Cemetery.

Elly was born, Eliazer Tavarez on May 26, 1938 in Tierras Nuevas, Chihuahua, Mexico to the late Blas Tavarez Sr. and Estefana Guerrero Tavarez. She married Augustine Orta Sr. in a Civil Ceremony on December 21, 1955 in Lubbock Texas. They were married by the Catholic Church April 4, 1957 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Elly was preceded in death by her husband, Augustine Orta Sr., 2 sisters, Amalia Venegas and Yolanda Banuelos; 2 brothers, Blas Tavarez Jr. and Oscar Tavarez.

Elly Orta is survived by 8 children, Janie Orta Gomez and husband Joe Gomez, Guadalupe Orta, Augustine Orta Jr. and wife, Annette Perez Orta, Delores Orta Reyes, Jose Orta, Ninfa Orta Raya, Robert Orta and wife Sue Orta and George Orta and wife, Norma Orta.   She leaves behind twenty-One Grandkids and 42 Great Grandchildren too numerous to mention by name.

She is also survived by 7 siblings, Vickie Urias, Consuelo Rodriguez, Berta Carrasco, Olga Morales, Aurora Tercero, Delores Alanis and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins in the Tavarez lineage. She is also survived by Gregoria Yanis Orta, her Sister-in-Law and numerous nieces and nephews in the Orta lineage.


Elly was a life-long member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. She was a member of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Society and served in Choir of Gold/El Coro de Oro for 30 years. She was the type of soul who enjoyed life to the fullest and living every day. She loved music, dancing, and celebrating any and all occasions with family and friends. She was a friend to many in the community, loved to laugh and make people laugh.

Our hearts hurt desperately now, thinking of continuing life without our beloved Miss Elly. We will miss her wonderful smile and her laughter. Our only consolation is that Miss Elly left us with wonderful memories. She will be sorely missed.

Serving as primary pallbearers are Gabriel Gomez, Joel Chavez, Augustine Orta Jr., Pete Reyes Jr., Jordan Orta, and Robert Orta Jr.
